AdapTronix

Imagine coming home from a long walk and feeling no pain in your feet and legs! What if you could wake up each morning without a crick in your neck or back? AdapTronix is an exciting new pressure redistribution system that automatically adjusts to fit you. Now the pains and discomforts that result from just living your every day life can melt away. By providing the utmost in comfort and protection, AdapTronix will leave you rested, energized, and ready to tackle your day.

Why Adaptronix?

Custome

75% of adults will experience debilitating foot pain in their lifetime. Women, athletes, and people with diabetes are particularly susceptible. For many, this eventually necessitates customized footwear or orthotics, which are both expensive and static. In other words, they are neither built to adjust to alterations in lifestyle nor to changes in health.

Durable

The average person takes up to 10,000 steps each day. This can take quite a toll on our shoes. The foams, springs, and rubber found in typical footwear are easily deformed, which can result in foot pain and injuries if shoes are not replaced frequently.

Adaptive

Today, as in the past, shoes are entirely passive. Barring differences in size, most shoes are manufactured to fit the average, normal foot. Custom orthotics or made to order footwear do allow for a more personalized fit, but they are simply unable to actively adjust and cannot create a truly adaptive shoe.

Stylish

Let’s face it, shoes that are built for comfort are not usually the most fashionable. On the other hand, fashionable shoes are rarely comfortable. Consumers who wish to remain trendy without sacrificing the health of their feet are left with very few options.

The adaptronix Solution

This is an entirely novel type of custom footwear. The AdapTronix system senses changes in its environment and automatically adjusts, redistributing pressure, relieving foot pain and reducing the risk of injury. AdapTronix is fully customizable. It fits you and everything you do.

AdapTronix does not rely on foam, springs, or rubber to ensure comfort. Using innovative new materials, the AdapTronix system creates footwear that not only holds its shape, but even adjusts the shape of the footwear to ensure comfort, reduce injury, and minimize wear and tear.

AdapTronix is designed to fit you. The AdapTronix system constantly gathers information, changes, and adapts in real-time, ensuring that you are always comfortable, no matter what you are doing.

AdapTronix does not sacrifice style for comfort. AdapTronix provides a sleek, customizable, and stylish footwear system versatile enough to take on the form of a cross-trainer, sandal, or even a high heel. And it does all of this while providing a new standard in comfort.

Feeling the Pressure

In order to understand how AdapTronix redefines comfort, it is important to first understand what the source of foot pain is in the first place.

Biomechanics 101

1) For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Yes, it’s Newton’s Third Law of Motion. When we stand motionless our entire body weight pushes down onto the ground. This action has an equal and opposite reaction and the ground pushes back. Whenever any part of your body comes into contact with any surface, that surface exerts a force onto you. When you are in motion, the force exerted back onto you is even greater.

2) Our feet take the brunt of this force.

The amount of force exerted on our feet is enormous. In fact, the force is about 50% greater than our own body weight! In a healthy foot standing still on a smooth surface, the force is distributed fairly evenly across the parts of the foot that contact the ground. However, as we walk or run, the way the force is distributed changes. This means that some parts of our foot feel more pressure than others. High heels make this even worse. Amazingly, the force exerted by a 100-pound woman in high heels is greater than that exerted on the bare feet of a 6,000-pound elephant! Follow the red dots to see where pressure is pinpointed as we walk.

3) Uneven surfaces

Walking over uneven surfaces causes the pressure to be distributed differently still. When we feel pain or discomfort in our feet, healthy bodies automatically, and often unconsciously, adjust to move the pressure away from the painful spot on the foot. The problem is that modern shoes lock our feet in place, making it difficult for our bodies to self-adjust. As a result, our feet change shape and become deformed (i.e. supinated or pronated). This causes us to alter the way we walk and, in turn, changes the way pressure is distributed in our bodies. The result is chronic pain and often debilitating foot, ankle, knee, hip, and even back problems.

PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION

HEALTHY SUPINATED PRONATED

4) Pathologic Conditions

Sometimes pain is a good thing. People who have nerve problems resulting from chemotherapy, diabetes, autoimmune diseases, alcoholism, AIDS, Lyme disease, medications, and other conditions often experience severe foot problems simply because they cannot feel pain in their extremities. This means they don’t adjust to excess pressure by altering the position of their foot, causing blisters, ulcers, and more. In fact, 25% of diabetic patients will develop a chronic foot ulcer, 50% of these become infected and 20% of infected ulcers lead to amputation. And it could all be prevented with footwear that senses and adjusts to their stance and gait.

Adaptronix redefines Comfort

AdapTronix is a groundbreaking system for redistributing pressure. Our bodies are constantly exposed to pressure. Our feet feel it from the ground we walk on. Our necks feel pressure exerted by our mattress and pillows. Our backs feel pressure from the chairs we sit on. AdapTronix is a dynamic, intelligent interface between you and the surfaces that exert pressure on your body. Adaptronix can detect when pressure is distributed unevenly and automatically adjusts to ensure a more even pressure distribution. For the first time ever, thanks to AdapTronix, footwear, mattresses, and furniture can be fully customized to fit you.

Surfaces are uneven. A sidewalk may seem like a nice, smooth surface, but in reality our feet must navigate a veritable obstacle course. Each crack in the pavement, every stray rock or bump, and each step up or down creates an uneven surface. When the surface we are walking on changes, even minutely, the way pressure is distributed on our feet also changes. Therefore, while one step may put excess pressure on your heel, the next step may put more pressure on your toes. Until now, shoes have not been able to actively adjust to ever changing surfaces, leaving our feet exposed to pressures that cause pain and injury. AdapTronix automatically identifies where pressure is being distributed with each and every step. In real-time, Adaptronix then adjusts, ensuring the pressure is evenly distributed.

People are adventurous. We are constantly engaging in new activities and, in the process, we are always exposing our feet to new situations. Typically, this means we must purchase a different pair of shoes for each activity. And while the shoes may be tailored to the activity, the shoes are most certainly not tailored to your individual and dynamic lifestyle. As a consequence, we often wear ill-fitting shoes that may be more fashionable than practical. The end result is aches, pains, and injuries. AdapTronix recognizes and adjusts to your adventurous lifestyle.

Our bodies are dynamic. We gain and lose weight. We develop and heal from injuries. Our bones and muscles change as we age, causing our feet to change in shape and size. We even suffer from illnesses that diminish our ability to sense and respond to pain. Every situation places a different type of pressure on our feet, but shoes are just not built to respond to these changes. AdapTronix automatically adjusts to accommodate all of the changes our bodies’ experience.

Of course, our feet are not the only parts of our bodies that are exposed to pressure. When we sit on a chair or lie down in our beds, our bodies feel it. Since the pressure is not distributed evenly, we often experience aches and pains. The revolutionary pressure redistribution system provided by AdapTronix can help to relieve pressure points caused by mattresses, car seats, office chairs, wheelchairs, couches, and more. Adapted for you, AdapTronix is the ultimate in comfort and protection.

Footwear

$185

Billion

2011 Global Footwear Market

The global footwear market is growing worldwide as the population numbers rise and disposable income levels increase. In 2011, the global footwear market reached $185 billion; it is projected to rise at an annual compound growth rate of 1.9% between 2011 and 2018. Market analysis indicates that the growing market is partially driven by increasing consumer demand for innovative footwear designs. In addition, there is growing awareness of the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle. Therefore, it is not surprising that the athletic footwear market is the fastest growing market segment, being valued at $74 billion in 2011. Consumers clearly value creative, innovative designs that also provide comfort and contribute to health. Unfortunately, current footwear systems tend to all be variations on the same theme. Several companies have begun to create smart shoes with electronic components that allow users to track their own movements. While this is an exciting new trend, no companies offer a truly dynamic system: one that can both track movement and adjust to ensure comfort.

AdapTronix offers an entirely new footwear system that is so innovative it changes the very concept of what a shoe can do. By providing unparalleled customization, the AdapTronix is designed to perfectly fit the consumer’s foot, track their movements, and continually adjust in real-time. Finally, footwear that fits you.

Orthotics

$7.3

Billion

2020 Projected Global Orthotics Market

In order to gain relief from chronic foot pain and discomfort, many people turn to either prefabricated or custom-made orthotic devices. The global orthotics market is projected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 6.2% from 2014 to 2020. The demand for custom-made products is clear, as this segment of the market is projected to reach $3.15 billion by 2020. However, there is still debate among researchers as to the effectiveness of custom orthotics. Creating custom orthotics is quite difficult and the industry is only recently developing products based on rigorous scientific principles. But, even the most well engineered modern orthotics are in no way adaptive. They are fitted while the person is standing still and are built to accommodate one type of activity. They do not adjust to the specific and ever evolving needs of the user.

AdapTronix accurately and precisely detects how pressure is distributed across the foot. It then uses the information and both static and dynamic biomechanical principles to instantaneously adjust and redistribute the pressure, creating a fluid, dynamic, and constantly customized fit.

Medical Care

20

Million

Americans have Peripheral Neuropathy

Many and various health problems lead to peripheral neuropathy, a condition in which nerve cells are damaged so that individuals cannot sense pain or pressure in their feet. These medical conditions include Lupus, AIDS, Lyme Disease, alcoholism, trauma, leprosy and post-chemotherapy damage, but diabetes is the most common cause of peripheral neuropathy in the United States. Diabetes prevalence is increasing rapidly around the world and, currently, 17 million people in Europe and the USA have diabetes-related neuropathy.

Regardless of the cause of the neuropathy, it has implications for foot health. Whereas a healthy person will adjust the way they walk to relieve pain brought on by a blister, people with neuropathy do not feel discomfort and do not adjust their foot position to prevent the blister from becoming worse. Unfortunately, most people with neuropathy also have a diminished ability to heal, which means that approximately 15-25% of people with diabetes develop chronic foot ulcers. Ultimately, less than half of these ulcers heal, such that 3-7% of people with diabetes require at least one amputation.

In order to help reduce the deleterious effects of neuropathy, physicians prescribe therapeutic footwear designed to provide added support and protection. Because therapeutic shoes are extremely expensive, the U.S. Medicare Therapeutic Shoe Program helps some neuropathic people obtain proper footwear. But even then, recent studies have shown that people with diabetes often do not wear custom-made shoes, partially because they tend to be rather heavy and unfashionable.

AdapTronix provides a superior option for people with peripheral neuropathy. It is light, easy to wear, comfortable, and looks no different from non-therapeutic models. Of course, the main advantage of AdapTronix is its ability to sense and automatically adjust to the user. Adaptronix is expected to dramatically decrease the rate of chronic ulcers and amputations among people with peripheral neuropathy resulting from diabetes and other conditions.

Mattresses

$24.7

Billion

2017 Projected Global Mattress Market

The global mattress market is growing rapidly. There is increasing awareness of the health benefits associated with good sleep and more and more people preferentially purchase high-end, specialty mattresses. This mentality has lead to a projected 9.9% compound annual growth rate in global mattress sales from 2013-2018.

A good night’s sleep is vital for overall health and quality of life. Research indicates that the right mattress can contribute significantly to increased quality of sleep, which in turn leads to improvements in mental and physical health. Unfortunately, there is no easy answer because people require varying levels of firmness to ensure quality sleep and people rarely choose the best mattress. In a recent academic study, the authors tested the average consumer’s ability to choose the right mattress:

“When allowed to test mattresses in a typical showroom experience, individuals appear to choose mattresses that do not optimize their sleep. Given that this “test drive” approach is commonplace, it would seem that most of the general public may be sleeping on mattresses improperly suited to the individual owners.”

AdapTronix takes out the guesswork. Consumers need not try mattress after mattress. Instead, Adaptronix adjusts to fit the consumer. The AdapTronix system precisely measures how pressure is distributed across your body and then adjusts to ensure the appropriate level of firmness. If a recent back injury leaves the consumer needing a firmer mattress, the Adaptronix adjusts to provide optimum comfort and quality sleep. It’s time to sleep better; it’s time for Adaptronix.

Good mattresses are an essential part of long-term medical care. Poor pressure distribution can create painful and potentially serious bedsores in those with restricted movement who are confined to their beds for medical reasons. Medical personnel constantly monitor these patients to help prevent and ultimately heal pressure ulcers, but with limited success. AdapTronix can help by redistributing pressure, possibly even preventing bedsores from forming in the first place.

2012 U.S. Office Funiture Sales

As the number of desk and computer-based jobs increase, people often sit for much of the day. Not only do we sit at work, but in our cars, on planes, in the subway, and on our couches. There are a host of pads and cushions designed to relieve the back and neck pain associated with extended periods of sitting, but the seating technology itself has not evolved much over time. AdapTronix can provide the innovative progress desperately needed to shake up the seating industry. AdapTronix provides a discrete, versatile pressure redistribution system that can be incorporated into various types of seats, providing a customized fit for whoever sits down next.
